Defense Minister Blaszczak: Poland will increase the number of troops in the east of the country
WARSAW, January 16 – RIA Novosti. Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Mariusz Blaszczak said that Poland is mainly trying to increase the number of troops in the east of the country.
“Our goal is to make the Polish army as large as possible, especially in the eastern part of our country,” said Blaszczak, broadcast by Polish Television, talking to the young soldiers.
He also said that 2.8 thousand volunteer basic military service (a new type of service) soldiers are now training in Poland.
“We have prepared 25 thousand places for the soldiers who are doing basic voluntary military service. More than 16 thousand people applied for voluntary military service last year. This is a good result since we started training from the middle of last year. Whatever happens, if there are more applications, we will prepare more places,” he said.
Earlier, Polish authorities announced that they plan to increase the size of the army to 300,000 people.
