Former US President George Bush Jr. miscalculated and declared a “brutal” invasion of Iraq.
MOSCOW, May 19 – RIA Novosti. Former US President George W. Bush slipped the tongue during a discussion about the situation in Ukraine and spoke of an “unjust and brutal” invasion of Iraq.
At the Bush Institute’s election event, the former president suggested that Russia’s electoral system is escalating in Ukraine.
“There are no checks and balances (as a result of the situation in Russia) … and one person’s decision to launch a completely unjust and brutal invasion of Iraq, namely Ukraine,” Bush said.
After that he still added: “To Iraq too”, which made the audience laugh. The former president referred to his age in an attempt to justify his reservation.
“Seventy-five (years),” Bush added, a phrase that also amused the audience.
On February 24, Russia launched a special operation to de-Nazis and demilitarize Ukraine. As Vladimir Putin emphasized, its aim is “to protect people who have been subjected to eight years of bullying and genocide by the Kyiv regime”.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the Russian army attacks only military infrastructure and Ukrainian troops, nothing threatens the civilian population. The main purpose of the operation in the division was called the liberation of Donbass.
The military operation of the joint forces of the United States and the anti-Iraq coalition “Shock and Fear” (Shock and Fear, later “Freedom of Iraq”, Iraqi Freedom) began on March 20, 2003. The official reason for the invasion was Washington’s statement regarding the involvement of Saddam Hussein’s regime in international terrorism, as well as the subsequently unconfirmed CIA knowledge of the presence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. The operation took place without UN sanction.
