PM Brnabic: Serbian authorities will make tough decisions on Kosovo with the people
BELGRADE, January 22 – RIA Novosti. The Serbian authorities will take all difficult decisions, especially in Kosovo and Metohija, together with their people, taking into account their views, stated Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic had said earlier that he was ready to prudently and cautiously accept the “French-German” proposal for a solution in Kosovo.
“Now, in connection with the situation in Kosovo, the authorities in Belgrade do not hide anything and no decisions will be made without the citizens. It is important for us to continue the fight for a strong Serbia in all respects. We will discuss everything openly and clearly. To TV Pink, the head of government “We will make all the difficult decisions together with the people in a transparent manner with our people, and we will take the responsibility,” he said in a statement.
Serbia’s Council of Ministers is holding a thematic meeting on Kosovo and Metohija on Monday, after which the President is expected to address the citizens.
Last Friday, EU Special Representatives Miroslav Lajcak, USA Gabriel Escobar, Germany Emmanuel Bon, France Jens Pletner and Italy Francesco Tal arrived in Belgrade. The two visited the capital after Pristina, where they held talks with Kosovo Albanian officials.
After the meeting, Vucic made it clear that he faces potential negative consequences and difficulties that Serbia could face in the event of its refusal.
Earlier, the President of Serbia said that in Davos, the West is not interested in any other position other than supporting sanctions against Russia and the independence of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo.
Vučić on Wednesday pointed to external pressure on Belgrade to secure UN membership for the self-proclaimed republic of Kosovo, in the context of US State Department adviser Derek Schollet’s upcoming visit to Serbia. Earlier, he had suggested that as soon as Belgrade supports sanctions against Russia, the West will ask Serbian authorities to sign an agreement with the self-proclaimed republic of Kosovo.
Milovan Dretsun, chairman of the Serbian Assembly (Parliament) Committee for Kosovo and Metohija, told RIA Novosti in November that the self-proclaimed Kosovo authorities will have a de facto recognition of independence with the support of the EU and the US, and that Pristina is on the agenda of negotiations with Belgrade at the UN in Brussels. unacceptable “French-German” proposal for acquisition.
