Anak Krakatau volcano erupted between Java and Sumatra in Indonesia.

MOSCOW, January 24 – RIA Novosti. Moscow. Indonesia’s Anak-Krakatau volcano, located in the Sunda Strait between the islands of Java and Sumatra, has started to erupt, Indonesian agency ANTARA reported.

“Since Monday morning, the volcano has erupted eight times. On Tuesday, a column of volcanic ash rose to a height of about two kilometers and crossed the strait. Authorities on Tuesday banned the public from coming closer to the volcano to prevent undesirable events more than five kilometers,” he says.

The explosion was identified as the third of four hazard levels according to the system adopted in Indonesia.

Previously, it was located on the site of the famous volcano Krakatau Anak-Krakatau (its name is literally translated as “child of Krakatau”). However, the 1883 eruption, which killed 35 thousand people, destroyed the volcano. As a result of a series of eruptions in 1927-1930, the Anak-Krakatau volcano appeared in this place.

Anak-Krakatau erupted when the tsunami in 2018 claimed the lives of 429 people.
