The US Wall Street Journal reports that the US government is now considering supplying Abrams tanks to Ukraine, after previously saying that tanks would not form part of the weapons shipped.
The newspaper quoted officials as saying: “The administration of (President Joe) Biden is leaning towards sending large numbers of M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine and has announced that shipments could take place this week.”
“The announcement will form part of a larger diplomatic agreement with Germany, in which Germany agrees to ship fewer Leopard 2 tanks and also agrees to ship more German-made tanks from Poland and other countries,” the report added. .
According to the report, President Joe Biden agreed to supply Ukraine with tanks in a phone call with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz last week.
