Antonov: Russian army will destroy American tanks in Ukraine
WASHINGTON, January 25 – RIA Novosti. Anatoly Antonov, Russian Ambassador to the United States, said that the supply of American tanks to Ukraine would be a “clear provocation” and warned that armored vehicles would be destroyed by the Russian army.
Local media reports that US President Joe Biden will go on Wednesday to announce the transfer of 30 to 50 Abrams tanks to the Ukrainians.
“If the USA decides to procure tanks, it will certainly not work to justify such a step with the arguments of “defense weapons”. This will be another open provocation against the Russian Federation in the current conflict,” – said the ambassador, his words were quoted by the diplomatic mission.
According to Antonov, the United States is deliberately trying to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia. “(Washington) gives the green light to the use of American aid to attack the Crimea. It covers crimes of radicals against the population of the Donbass, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. More and more officials and experts in America agree: this is a “war” by proxy “with our country. The ambassador pointed out that the Americans constantly raise the “bar” of military aid to Ukraine, especially during the times when the Russian troops were victorious.
Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24. President Vladimir Putin described his goal as “protecting people who have been subjected to eight years of bullying and genocide by the Kyiv regime.” Russia had previously sent a note to NATO countries for arms supplies to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo containing weapons for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation reported that NATO countries were “playing with fire” by supplying weapons to Ukraine. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov noted that pumping weapons into Ukraine from the West does not contribute to the success of the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative effect.
