Correio da Manha: Portugal is preparing to send four Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine
MOSCOW, January 25 – RIA Novosti. Portugal is preparing to send four Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, local newspaper reports Correio da Manha with reference to sources.
“Portugal is preparing to send four Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine,” the publication writes, citing a source close to the government.
According to the newspaper, Portugal has a total of 37 tanks, 12 of which are in working condition.
In order to supply German-made tanks to Ukraine, countries must obtain permission from Germany to lift export restrictions. Finnish media reported that, in addition to Germany, Poland and Finland, Spain, Greece and Denmark have Leopard tanks.
Russia had previously sent a note to NATO countries for arms supplies to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo containing weapons for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation reported that NATO countries were “playing with fire” by supplying weapons to Ukraine. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov noted that pumping weapons into Ukraine from the West will have a negative effect.
