White House urges Ukrainian military to maintain combat speed as weather improves

WASHINGTON, January 25 – RIA Novosti. White House National Security Council strategic communications coordinator John Kirby said the United States wants Ukrainian forces to maintain the combat momentum as the weather improves.

“We think the Russians will want to increase speed when the weather improves. We want to ensure that Ukrainians can not only stay the same, but also have the opportunity to set their own pace,” Kirby told reporters.

He added that the American tanks promised to Ukraine will not arrive in the country for a few more months. “It will take months for them to get there,” he said.

Russia had previously sent notes to NATO countries due to the supply of weapons to Kiev. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo containing weapons for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation stated that NATO countries are “playing with fire” by supplying weapons to Kiev. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov noted that pumping weapons into Ukraine from the West does not contribute to the success of the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative effect.
