It is planned to create two tank battalions, at the first stage a company of 14 Leopard2 A6 types will be provided from the Bundeswehr reserves. It is also planned to organize the training of the Ukrainian army in Germany. The new aid package will also include logistics, ammunition and system maintenance.

Russia had previously sent a note to NATO countries for arms supplies to Ukraine. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo containing weapons for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia. The Foreign Ministry stated that NATO countries were “playing with fire” by supplying weapons to Ukraine. Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that pumping weapons into Ukraine from the West did not contribute to the success of the Russia-Ukraine negotiations and would have a negative impact.
