Nuland: The US will not have time to send tanks to Ukraine until spring, when an attack is expected
WASHINGTON, January 26 – RIA Novosti. US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland told the Senate that Washington will not have time to transport tanks to Kiev until the spring, when the fighting is expected to intensify.
“The Abrams, as you know, is a very complex tank and requires a lot of training. Although we approved them yesterday, it will take some time to deliver them to the battlefield. They will not appear there in the spring offensive,” he said.
The day before, US President Joe Biden announced that a battalion complex of modern Abrams tanks of his own production – 31 units – was sent to Ukraine. At the same time, Britain and Germany allocated their tanks to Kiev, which allowed their delivery to other countries with tanks.
Russia had previously sent a note to NATO countries for arms supplies to Ukraine. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo containing weapons for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia. The Foreign Ministry stated that NATO countries were “playing with fire” by supplying weapons to Ukraine. Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that pumping weapons into Ukraine from the West did not contribute to the success of the Russia-Ukraine negotiations and would have a negative impact.
