Ukraine said on Tuesday its forces repelled Russian attacks on a highway near the eastern city of Bakhmut, cutting off a vital supply line from Ukraine to Moscow.
Military spokesman Serhii Cherivati said on television that Russian forces had failed to cut the road from Chasiv Yar town to Bakhmut.
“Russian forces failed to block the road used to supply the Ukrainian armed forces. In Bakhmut, the Ukrainian army is equipped with everything necessary, “he added.
He added that Bakhmut remains one of the main targets of Russian attacks, including through artillery and infantry attacks.
Russia said on Tuesday that its forces had taken control of the small town of Blakhudant, north of Bakhmut.
Reuters was unable to independently verify either side’s account of the battle.
