Authorities threatened the mayor of Chisinau with criminal liability for problems with the water supply.
CHISINAU, 2 February – RIA Novosti. Vasile Gradinaru, a lawmaker from the ruling Action and Solidarity party, said Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban could face criminal liability if residents of the Moldovan capital were dehydrated.
Earlier, the mayor urged residents of the Moldovan capital to stock up on water, as the water supply in Chisinau could be suspended due to electricity debts from the Ape-Canal enterprise. Electricity supplier Premier Energy has made a statement that does not affect the technological functioning of its water supply, sewage and cooling water supply systems, since electricity is cut only for the administrative block of Ape-Canal. Despite this, Deputy Mayor Irina Gutnik told the media that residents of the three main streets of one of Chisinau’s districts are already dehydrated.
“If the water goes off, only Ion Ceban will be responsible and we will intervene immediately … He must understand that these actions smell like criminal proceedings,” Gradinaru said at a briefing.
His colleague Alex Trubka added that the threat to residents of the capital to be cut off from the drinking water supply is absolutely unfounded, as the company can use the generators to continue operating.
