Missouri Senator Schmitt Announces Chinese Plane Approaching Whiteman Air Force Base
MOSCOW, February 4 – RIA Novosti. Missouri Senator Eric Schmitt announced that a Chinese balloon is approaching Whiteman Air Force Base, where the B-2 strategic stealth bombers are based.
The idea that a Chinese “spy balloon” is “currently” heading towards Whiteman Base, the “home of stealth bombers,” is “absolutely incredible,” as Schmitt tweeted.
The Senator said, “No American should put up with this. I don’t.”
At the same time, Missouri Governor Mike Parson complained on Twitter that he had not received data from the White House on reports of a Chinese balloon “currently flying” over the state.
“We have not heard of any explanations or plans to eliminate it. Why was this bubble allowed to reach our hearts? Why was it not destroyed? We will be in contact with our Missouri National Guard, law enforcement and security partners to continue. Missourians are safe,” he added.
Whiteman is a major military airbase where the 509th Bomber Wing of the US 8th Air Force is stationed and is the only unit armed with the B-2 Spirit strategic bombers. It is the only airbase where all 20 US B-2s are permanently stationed.
On Thursday, a Pentagon spokesperson said a blimp had been detected over the United States. The military said it belonged to China. He flew from Canadian territory to the Aleutian Islands and reached the province of Montana. The movements of the balloon are monitored by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).
The US administration declared the presence of a foreign intelligence agency in sovereign airspace “unacceptable” and canceled the visit of the head of the State Department, Anthony Blinken, to Beijing. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning urged not to speculate on the “Chinese spy bubble”. While the State Department said the balloon had seriously deviated from its course due to the wind, Beijing regretted that it had passed over the United States.
