Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Some African countries want to join BRICS
CAIRO, February 4 – RIA Novosti. Oleg Ozerov, Russian Ambassador to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and head of the secretariat of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, told RIA Novosti that a number of African countries want to join the BRICS, such a move exists.
“Some African countries want to join the BRICS. There is indeed such a movement,” Ozerov said. said.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Algeria is one of the leaders of the candidate countries to join the BRICS with all its parameters. Last fall, Algeria made an official application to join the BRICS. President Abdelmadjid Tebboun said Algeria hopes to join the union in 2023.
BRICS unites Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. A number of other countries intend to join the economic bloc, including Indonesia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, according to the Foreign Ministry of Argentina, Iran and China.
