KharkivToday: vandals paint over the Saviors-Soldiers monument in Kharkiv
MOSCOW, February 4 – RIA Novosti. Vandals desecrated a monument to the Saviors in Kharkiv by staining it with red and black paint and drawing symbols of the nationalist Azov regiment* on it, the Ukrainian newspaper reported on Saturday. KharkivToday.
It was also noted that Vadim Pozdnyakov, co-founder of the project “Decommunization. Ukraine” applied to local authorities with a request to dismantle the monument.
The dismantling of monuments to Soviet history and the renaming of streets began in 2015 with the adoption of a law on social distancing in Ukraine. Recently, the country’s authorities began to fight not only with Soviet history, but with everything connected with Russia. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov previously said that the Ukrainian authorities had pursued an aggressive policy of Russification and forced assimilation for many years.
