In Berlin, they complained about the silence of the partners in the EU after the Federal Republic of Germany allowed the supply of tanks to Kiev.

BERLIN, 5 February – RIA Novosti. After agreeing to supply Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, General Secretary of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD, which is part of the government coalition), Kevin Kunert said that Germany’s partners in the EU suddenly fell silent.

Earlier, the German magazine Spiegel, citing its own knowledge, reported that it questioned the implementation of Berlin’s plan to supply Ukraine with Leopard 2 tanks to create two tank battalions. It was noted that doubts arose in the Chancellor and the German Ministry of Defense due to the lack of delivery commitments from European partners. Against this background, the German government launched a “diplomatic attack” to carry out the planned supplies.

“In the past weeks, it sometimes seemed that the whole world wanted to send (tanks – ed.), but not the Federal Republic of Germany. Now we see that Germany has assumed certain obligations and indeed a tank company will be delivered. Speaking on the broadcast of the second German channel ZDF, Kuhnert , commented on the fact that many of Germany’s partners in the EU have not yet committed themselves to the supply of tanks.

The politician added that Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius are now negotiating almost daily, especially with EU partners. “Actually, now it must be said that all this is assembled in separate parts necessary for both tank divisions, battalion, which was promised so that it would really be possible to send them to Ukraine,” said the Secretary General.

It also explained that equipment and ammunition are limited. “There is no such large warehouse anywhere where everything is ready and someone would refuse to deliver it. Stocks are scarce,” Künert added.

At the end of January, the German government announced that it has decided to transfer the German Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. Germany plans to establish two tank battalions. In the first phase, they plan to supply a company of 14 Leopard 2 type A6s from the Bundeswehr’s stocks. In addition, Berlin has agreed to allow the re-export of German Leopard 2 tanks to Kiev from their stocks to countries that plan such deliveries.

The Russian Federation sent a note to NATO countries for the supply of weapons to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo containing weapons for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation reported that NATO countries were “playing with fire” by supplying weapons to Ukraine. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov noted that pumping weapons into Ukraine from the West does not contribute to the success of the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative effect.
