Polish Ministry of Defense: Russian warplanes did not violate the airspace of other countries

WARSAW, February 14 – RIA Novosti. The Polish Ministry of National Defense confirmed that the Dutch F-35 warplanes did not violate the airspace of any country, and that they accompanied three Russian military aircraft to the Polish border.

Earlier, a local publication citing the military department noted that F-35 fighters escorted three Russian military aircraft on the Polish border.

“Dutch F-35s deployed at the 22nd tactical airbase in Malbork were scrambling to detect and intercept three Russian aircraft operating near Polish airspace on Monday, 13 February,” the republic’s defense ministry told Polish television.

As the ministry added, no country’s airspace was violated as the planes flew over the waters of international waters.

“The operation was carried out as part of the NATO Advanced Air Policing mission, which oversees the eastern flank of the alliance. Undermining the mission pair in such a case is standard procedure,” the ministry said. According to the Dutch Ministry of Defense, we are talking about Russian Il-20 and Su-27 aircraft. In January, it was reported that Dutch F-35 warplanes started their first training flights in Poland as part of the NATO mission.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has repeatedly noted that Russian aircraft conduct flights over neutral waters in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace, without crossing the airways and without dangerously approaching the aircraft of a foreign state.
