German Defense Minister Pistorius admits the West is making a “show of strength” against Russia
BERLIN, February 18 – RIA Novosti. In his speech at a panel held at the Munich Security Conference, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that the West is showing strength against the Russian Federation by supporting Ukraine with arms supplies.
He said that on the one hand, it meant encouraging the Ukrainians for self-defense, and on the other hand, the supply of weapons. According to Pistorius, Germany is one of the leading countries in this type of aid.
“But it’s also a bit sad that at 62 I had to spend billions of euros on weapons. And that’s when you consider that I grew up at a time when we all believed there would never be another war in Europe. That’s terrible,” he added.
Pistorius’ speech was published on the website of the Munich Conference.
The Munich Security Conference began on Friday, and Russia has not attended the conference for the second year in a row, despite the fears of a number of politicians and experts that it is impossible to build security and strive for peace without dialogue with Moscow. The main theme of the conference is the crisis in Ukraine. At a conference in Munich last year, Volodymyr Zelensky threatened to reconsider Ukraine’s abandonment of nuclear weapons.
