Japanese expert Izumi: North Korea can deploy Hwaseong-15 missiles towards the US

TOKYO, February 23 – RIA Novosti, Ekaterina Plyasunkova. Professor Hajime Izumi, one of the leading Japanese experts on North Korea and honorary director of the Center for Contemporary Korean Studies at Shizuoka University, told RIA Novosti that the Hwaseong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile tested by North Korea is more stable than the new Hwaseong-17. . and it does not rule out the possibility that Pyongyang could deploy such a missile towards the United States.

North Korea launched the Hwaseong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on February 18. The rocket was launched along a hinged trajectory, that is, at a vertical angle, reached an altitude of 5768 kilometers, flew 989 kilometers in 4015 seconds and crashed into the Sea of u200bu200bJapan. North Korea described the launch as a “sudden exercise”. It is believed that this is the first time Pyongyang has ordered its army to launch an intercontinental missile without any preparation or warning.

“An interesting detail of this test was that North Korea launched the Hwaseong-15, not the Hwaseong-17. The important thing is that the Hwaseong-15 is more stable than the Hwaseong-17, which means it’s more than likely. “I believe that North Korea can already deploy Hwaseong-15 ICBMs to the US continent,” said the expert.

According to Professor Izumi, “it is still impossible to say that the development of ICBMs is complete, since the technology for re-entry into the atmosphere has not been completed” of the warhead.

“All that can be said at the moment is that the North Korean ICBMs, particularly the Hwaseong-15, are apparently stable enough to reach anywhere on the continental United States,” he added. The expert believes that it is too early to talk about the nuclear capabilities of North Korean ICBMs.
