The meeting of the delegations of Turkey, Finland and Sweden on NATO membership will be held on March 9 in Brussels.

ANKARA, 27 February – RIA Novosti. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said that the tripartite meeting on NATO membership between the delegations of Turkey, Finland and Sweden will be held on March 9 in Brussels.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that an agreement had been reached between Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and Turkey, Sweden and Finland to hold a meeting on NATO membership in mid-March. Earlier, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu said that Ankara has restarted the tripartite mechanism for Sweden and Finland’s membership to NATO, and that the next meeting is expected to be held in Brussels.

“It is good that the meeting will be held in Brussels, so NATO will see the whole process and the fulfillment of their obligations by these countries (Sweden and Finland). “On March 9,” he said.

To date, Sweden and Finland’s applications to NATO have not been approved by only two of the 30 countries – these are Hungary and Turkey. Negotiations with Turkey to approve the Scandinavian application are expected to resume in the coming weeks.
