KISINEV, 12 March – RIA Novosti. Igor Grosu, spokesman for the Moldovan parliament and chairman of the ruling Action and Solidarity party, accused the protesting opposition of “trying to overthrow the constitutional order”, while the politician made the statement on social networks on Sunday.

On Sunday, another mass protest against rising prices and tariffs was held in the Moldovan capital. “The purpose of these actions is to overthrow the constitutional order and transform the legitimate government of Chisinau into a government that will place our country at the disposal of the Russian Federation. It is to stop the European integration process. Grosu said that the state of the Republic of Moldova is external elements, members of political parties and criminal gangs, as well as everyone who protects them. He said he needed to be held accountable.

On Saturday, Sandu and the police issued a summons to the citizens. Noting that there may be attempts to destabilize the action, they urged the organizers and participants to abide by the law and not allow actions that “may endanger the life and health of people and the security of the state”.

Moldova is experiencing an energy crisis due to rising energy prices, gas tariffs have increased almost sevenfold in 2022 and almost fourfold for electricity. Against the background of the increase in the price of energy resources, debts to utilities are growing among the population. According to experts, gas debt of ordinary consumers in Chisinau has increased sevenfold since last November.

Numerous polls show that around 60% of the country’s population doubts that the ruling Action and Solidarity party can stay in power for another three years until the next parliamentary elections. Also, about 70% of Moldovans are disappointed with the policy of the authorities, and almost 65% support the idea of changing the government.
