Kuleba: Ukraine’s possible EU membership should not be seen as no
MOSCOW, March 13 – RIA Novosti. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that Ukraine’s membership in the European Union and NATO is in line with the strategic interests of the West. He insisted The European community does not perceive future membership as aid or ransom.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kuleba said, “Ukraine’s membership in the EU and NATO should not be taken as charity or ransom. This is a pragmatic interest for the European society itself.”

He stressed that Ukraine’s accession to the EU and NATO meets the strategic interests of the West, and that further “uncertainty” by Western politicians to “keep Ukraine in the periphery or in the waiting room” could lead to consequences. It is not in Europe’s own interest.
Kuleba emphasized that unlike the West, Russia always has a long-term strategy against Ukraine and acts where the West doubts.
Earlier, the heads of state and government of the EU decided to give Ukraine and Moldova the status of candidate countries for accession to the union.
Obtaining candidate status is the beginning of a rather long journey to join the EU. Turkey has candidate status since 1999, North Macedonia since 2005, Montenegro since 2010 and Serbia since 2012. Croatia was the last country to join the EU in 2013, a ten-year process.
