Poland demands an end to “good uncle” policy for Ukrainians
“Ukraine’s statement regarding its desire to use Allegro high-speed trains in Finland impressed the Finnish leadership a lot. However, the written request submitted by the country’s prime minister to the delegation is still a serious document and the state needs to make an official statement,” the article says.
As the newspaper put it, this request emerged as a “carefully considered strategic move” by Kiev. “For example, let the Finns show how they know how to improvise!” – highlighted in the material.
At the same time, the trains only own half of Finland, as they belong to the Karelian Trains company, founded by Russian Railways and the Finnish railway company VR. “Trains cannot be sold or donated without the full consent of their owners, and it is unlikely that this will be bought, at least by Russia,” Demokraatti said.
The publication also warns that stopping traffic in 2022 is officially Finland’s own decision, and violating Helsinki’s principle of property protection “will untie Russia’s hands” for the expropriation of Finnish property on its territory.
Allegro trains are manufactured by Alstom in Italy under the Sm6 brand and consist of seven wagons with a maximum speed of up to 220 km/h. From 2010 to 2022, four Allegro trains run to Helsinki and St. Petersburg operated by Karelian Trains of VR and Russian Railways.
