Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that Turkey will start ratification procedures in the Finnish Parliament to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), after Helsinki took concrete steps to fulfill its pledges.
“We have decided to initiate the protocol for Finland’s accession to NATO in our parliament,” Erdogan said at the end of a meeting with Finnish President Sauli Niinisto in Ankara.
Finland’s candidacy has already been accepted by 28 countries out of the 30 coalition members.
