Ballots opened for presidential elections in Montenegro

BELGRADE, March 19 – RIA Novosti. In Montenegro, the ballot boxes opened on Sunday morning for the presidential elections.

They will close at 20:00 local time (22.00 Moscow time). 542,154 residents of the republic have the right to vote. During the day, the election commission plans to report turnout data five times, starting at 9:00 am (11.00 Moscow time).

Montenegrin President election procedure

The selection committee approved seven candidates. At the top of the list is Milo Djukanovic, the incumbent chairman and leader of the Socialist Democratic Party (DPS). He has led the republic as prime minister and president for over 30 years.

Second, a candidate from the Europe Now movement is Yakov Milatovich, former Minister of Economic Development (2020-2022). Third is Andrija Mandic from the Democratic Front (DF) movement, Djukanovic’s longtime rival.

According to the March survey, Djukanovic will receive 33.8%, Milatovic – 16.01%, Mandic – 27%.

Opinion polls estimated about 10% or less for the rest of the candidates. Among them are the former head of the Ministry of Interior and the leader of the United Montenegro party, Goran Danilovic, the representative of the Social Democratic Party and the wife of former attorney general Dragina Vuksanovic-Stankovic, the former parliamentary speaker and head of the Democrats. party Aleksa Becic and local Internet comedian Jovan Radulovic.

To win in the first round, you need to score more than 50%. Opinion polls point to the highest probability of a runoff on April 2nd, with Djukanovic and Mandic in attendance.
