President Erdogan accused the opposition of opposing the Akkuyu nuclear power plant project.

ISTANBUL, 19 March – RIA Novosti. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Sunday that the country’s opposition is against the implementation of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant project.

“We are implementing projects to transition to green energy, including natural gas and nuclear energy. The opposition and those close to it say they want to go to Akkuyu, I told our friends – take them around. They went, they liked it. They say we are taking a step in green energy, we will not do it. What kind of logic is that? , what kind of thought is this? Erdoğan spoke at the opening of the first production facility in Turkey for boron carbide, which is also used in nuclear energy.

Erdogan noted that he trusts the citizens of countries who do not “vote” for the opposition because the power cuts will start again when they come to power in the country.

Erdogan had previously said that the opposition played into the hands of the West, and announced his intention to revise the Akkuyu nuclear power plant project and the state’s defense industry investments.

An alliance of six opposition parties said in its election manifesto published in January that it aims to “review the current status and related details of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant project, as well as any rights or obligations arising outside the power plant agreement”.

The Akkuyu nuclear power plant is currently being built in Turkey with the participation of Russia. This is the first nuclear power plant in the country. After the commissioning of all four units to be equipped with advanced Russian VVER-1200 reactors, the station is planned to produce approximately 35 billion kilowatt hours per year and meet 10% of Turkey’s electricity needs.

Presidential and parliamentary elections in Turkey will be held on 14 May. The only candidate of the “Republican Alliance”, the rival of the incumbent President Tayyip Erdogan, is Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the candidate of the opposition’s “People’s Alliance”. Although the pre-election poll results have not yet revealed the favorites of the upcoming elections, experts state that the current election process will be the most challenging for the ruling party due to the devastating earthquakes in which approximately 50 thousand people lost their lives. and difficult economic situation.
