Moldovan President Maia Sandu has previously urged the government to “respond vigorously to relevant initiatives”, accusing the opposition, particularly the Shor party, of once again having ties to Russia and destabilizing the situation in the country.

“Today, we must fight against the poverty that the current government led by Sandu has dragged the entire Moldovan people into, we must fight against the arbitrariness of the country’s leadership and the usurpation of power. Today we are fighting for a free Moldova, Shor said during a video message on his Telegram channel, for its well-being, money in the pockets of every citizen. so every one of its residents felt safe.”

The politician noted that his party’s supporters eventually “had to go through tough trials, illegal acts and arrests” to prove their claims.

“This government created the most seized justice. In addition, the citizen was deprived of the values ​​​​that our parents lived in. The question is for what? In return for what? Numerous polls show that around 60% of the country’s population doubts that the ruling Action and Solidarity party can stay in power for another three years until the next parliamentary elections. In Moldova, the opposition has been protesting for almost a year against rising prices and higher tariffs for gas and electricity. The most massive rallies are held with the support of the Shor party.

Shor is located outside of Moldova as he will be imprisoned in his homeland. In June 2017, he was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison on charges of bank fraud. Shor protested this decision, he was forbidden to leave the territory of Moldova. After the February 2019 elections, he became a member of parliament as the leader of the Shor political party, and then his parliamentary immunity was lifted after he left the country. The prosecutor’s office opened three criminal cases regarding the departure of the politician, he was placed on the international wanted list. However, during the early parliamentary elections in July 2021, Shor was re-elected as a member of parliament and restored immunity. At the end of May 2022, on the initiative of the Attorney General’s Office, Shor was again stripped of immunity due to suspicions of particularly large-scale money laundering and fraud.
