Post: A Medical Alert for Parents About Infant Sleep

Categories

Recent medical research has confirmed that reducing a child’s sleep duration is not as easy as many parents think, even by half an hour, because children who do not get enough sleep are subject to serious health problems.

New Zealand researchers conducted a study of 100 children between the ages of 8 and 12 and found that reducing the number of hours of sleep has a significant negative impact on health, even if it is noticeable, according to Sky News.

Research has shown that a 39-minute reduction in sleep duration, on average, over the course of a week will lead to health problems, affecting school performance and a child’s overall quality of life.

The researchers emphasized that half an hour of sleep is not a simple and insignificant period, as many people think.

This study shows how important it is for parents to make sure their young children go to bed at a specific time and not allow them to play games on their phones or TVs.

Parents can maintain healthy sleep for their children by providing a peaceful environment at home and making sure everyone leaves at a specified time.

And data from Children’s Hospital Colorado indicates that children who don’t get enough sleep are more likely to have stunted brain growth, learning difficulties and negative feelings.

In other cases, prolonged sleep deprivation can change the baby’s body weight and make it more susceptible to illness.
