Erdogan spokesman: Turkey did not close NATO door to Sweden, everything depends on its steps
ANKARA, 25 March – RIA Novosti. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s representative, İbrahim Kalın, said that the country has not closed NATO’s doors to Sweden, and that this depends on the steps taken by Stockholm.
On May 17, 2022, Finland and Sweden applied for membership in the North Atlantic Alliance, with only two of the 30 countries, Turkey and Hungary, yet to ratify. Budapest and Ankara have so far announced that they are ready to approve the Finnish application, but have not approved the Swedish application.
In an interview with a Turkish television channel, Kalyn said, “We did not close the doors to NATO for Sweden, the process, the speed of the process depends entirely on the steps taken by Stockholm.” NTV.
