According to the constitution, the former government resigned before the elected Assembly. Tokayev instructed the old cabinet to carry out their duties until the new government is formed. In addition, Amanat suggested that his party nominate a candidate for a new prime minister, but by law it is his prerogative to nominate a candidate for head of government.
“In accordance with Article 44 of the Constitution, I propose the candidacy of Smailov Alikhan Askhanovich for the post of prime minister,” Tokayev spoke at the plenary session of the parliament on Thursday. said.
Earlier on Thursday, the presidential press service reported that the Amanat party, which won the parliamentary elections, offered Tokayev the former prime minister’s candidacy for the new head of government.

Koshanov, the former spokesman of the lower house of the Kazakhstan parliament, again became its chairman.
In accordance with the current legislation, the President of Kazakhstan, after consultation with the factions of the political parties represented in the Assembly, submits his candidacy to the Assembly as the Prime Minister and appoints him after obtaining the approval of the deputies. The appointment of members of the government by the president takes place on the proposal of the prime minister made after consultations with the Assembly.
Smailov became the prime minister of Kazakhstan in January 2022, replacing Askar Mamin in the midst of mass unrest, which, according to the official version, was a cover for a coup attempt.
