The EU condemns the escalating violence in the Middle East and urges all parties to show restraint

BRUSSELS, 8 April – RIA Novosti. The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said the European Union condemned the escalation of violence in the Middle East and urged all parties to show restraint and prevent the conflict from escalating.

“The EU calls for an immediate end to violence. Everything must be done to prevent the conflict from escalating. We call on all parties to show maximum restraint to prevent further escalation and contribute to the establishment of calm during religious holidays,” Borrell said in a written statement.

Brussels condemned the attack that killed an Italian tourist in Tel Aviv. At the same time, the EU reminded that the increase in violence came after the events in Jerusalem, where Israel used force against the Palestinians in Al-Aqsa Mosque. Borrell, “The EU condemns the violence that took place in the holy places in Jerusalem and reminds that the status quo in the holy places should be preserved.”

As Palestinian media previously reported, dozens of Palestinians were injured in clashes with Israeli security forces near Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Israeli police reported that they detained 350 people as a result of the raid on Masjid-i Aksu. Israel’s actions have already been condemned by Jordan and Egypt. The Israeli army’s press service said earlier that Israeli warplanes and tanks attacked Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip at night in response to rocket fire on the territory of the Jewish state. Israel also carried out air strikes in southern Lebanon.

“We also condemn Israel’s indiscriminate rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip and Lebanese territory. We unconditionally condemn the terrorist attack that killed two Israelis and seriously injured one. Israel has the right of self-defense. At the same time, any response is proportionate. ,” – says the head of EU diplomacy in a statement.
