Economy Minister Habek: Germany favors EU sanctions on Russian nuclear industry
MOSCOW, April 15 – RIA Novosti. German Economy Minister Robert Habeck declarationBerlin is in favor of imposing EU sanctions on the Russian nuclear industry.
“The federal government has urged the European Commission to involve the civilian nuclear sector. This should be part of the next sanctions package,” Habek told German agency dpa.
Habek noted that nuclear technology is an “extremely sensitive field”. According to him, Russia “can no longer be considered a reliable partner” in this field.
This Saturday, Germany will cease operation of the last three operating German nuclear power plants, Isar-2, Neckarwestheim-2 and Emsland. It was originally planned for Germany to give up nuclear power in 2022, but plans were later changed. Prior to that, three of the last six nuclear power plants in the country had already been shut down.

G7 scolds Switzerland for loopholes in anti-Russian sanctions
Earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said in an interview with RIA Novosti that Budapest would never agree to impose sanctions on Rosatom as it would threaten the country’s energy security. According to Szijjarto, the introduction of sanctions against the Russian nuclear industry was not supported by some European countries using nuclear energy.
The Russian Federation has repeatedly stated that the country will cope with the pressure of sanctions that the West began to impose on Russia a few years ago and continues to increase. Moscow noted that the West did not have the courage to accept the failure of sanctions against the Russian Federation. In Western countries, opinions have repeatedly been heard that the anti-Russian sanctions are ineffective. Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously stated that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy for the West, and that the sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy. According to him, the main purpose of the West is to make the lives of millions of people worse.
