Sudanese Armed Forces declares 24-hour ceasefire

“Under the coordination of the Sudanese and Egyptian sides, today (Wednesday – ed.), 177 Egyptian Air Force technicians detained in Meroe during the uprising of the Rapid Reaction Forces formations were evacuated from Dongoly airport to the Arab Republic of Egypt. (A city in the north of Sudan – ed.) on four Egyptian military transports,” Sudanese Armed Forces said on Facebook (banned in the Russian Federation for being extremist).

Clashes between the RRF under the command of Mohammed Daglo and the regular army have been continuing in Sudan since April 15. According to the UN, 185 people have already died and 1.8 thousand people have been injured in conflicts. Opposition forces in Sudan are launching a massive information war in the media and social networks, making contradictory statements about military successes and control of facilities.

Last Saturday, the Sudanese Response Force announced that a battalion of the Egyptian armed forces at the Meroe military airbase had surrendered to them. The Egyptian Armed Forces said they are negotiating with stakeholders in Sudan to ensure the safety of the Egyptian army, which is coming to the neighboring country for exercises. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi emphasized that the Egyptian army in Sudan came to the country for the exercise and did not support any of the parties. The RRF said on Wednesday that Egyptian troops from Sudan’s airbase Meroe had been dispatched to Khartoum and would transfer troops to Egypt when “a suitable opportunity” saw.

On Tuesday morning, the SBR announced the approval of a 24-hour ceasefire. Later, Sudan Sovereignty Council member Shams al-Din al-Kabbashi said that the army also agreed to a 24-hour ceasefire starting Tuesday at 18:00 local time (19:00 Moscow time). He stressed that the Sudanese Armed Forces will respect the ceasefire and monitor how it is complied with by the RRF. A Sudanese military source told RIA Novosti that the ceasefire was brought for humanitarian reasons, provided that the RRF was observed. On Wednesday, the parties again declared a one-day ceasefire.
