MOSCOW, May 6 – RIA Novosti. British monarch Charles III was officially crowned at Westminster Abbey.
Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, placed St Edward’s crown on Charles III’s head, followed by a gun salute in London. Before coronation, the monarch was presented with a set of royal attire, including a globe, scepter with a cross, scepter with a dove, and the monarch’s ring. The broadcast was carried out by the Sky News channel.
The coronation takes place in the British capital amid anti-monarchist protests. Several dozen people were detained in London, including activists from the Republic and Just Stop Oil movements. The Republican anti-monarchist movement planned to stage protests on the day of the coronation, with 1.6 thousand activists in attendance. According to the Guardian newspaper, about 2,000 British anti-monarchy protesters gathered in Trafalgar Square.
