BEIJING, May 7 – RIA Novosti. According to the RIA Novosti correspondent, the “Immortal Regiment” action was held on the territory of the Russian Embassy in China on Sunday in Beijing, about 700 people attended the event.
The procession was attended by embassy leaders and staff, Russians living in Beijing, and about 100 Chinese citizens. Participants walked through the embassy with portraits of their ancestors, veterans of the Great Patriotic War, honored the memory of the dead with a minute of silence.
Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov also attended the action, walking with a portrait of his father, Vladimir Morgulov, holder of the Order of the Red Star and the Order of the Patriotic War.
“Today I am particularly glad that the ancestors of our Chinese friends, along with our fathers and grandfathers, joined our symbolic procession. Both our fathers and the fathers of our Chinese friends fought on different fronts, under different conditions, but actually fought. Let’s protect our culture, let’s be free and independent,” he said.
He noted that Russia and China, realizing the tragedy of the war, are doing everything possible today “to prevent the fire of a new world war from igniting”.

Elena Smolkova, coordinator of the Immortal Regiment action in Beijing and head of the Russian Club in Beijing, told RIA Novosti that the first such action in the Chinese capital was held several years ago. Then Russian activists agreed with the city government and placed 50 portraits of Great Patriotic War veterans in one of the parks. Later, the Russian Embassy in China also joined the action and the action gradually grew.
