The Canadian Government has ordered the arrest of the Russian An-124 Ruslan for confiscation.
WASHINGTON, June 11 – RIA Novosti. The Canadian Foreign Ministry said it had ordered the arrest of the Russian An-124 Ruslan transport aircraft held by Ottawa and will seek to seize it for use in Ukraine’s interests.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who previously visited Kiev, announced that the plane was seized.
The State Department added that if the plane is seized, Canada plans to work with Kiev on the transfer of the plane to Ukraine “to compensate victims of human rights abuses, restore international peace and security, or restore this country”.

On February 27, 2022, the plane belonging to the Volga-Dnepr company, which delivered a group of coronavirus tests from China, was refused to take off from Canada, which closed its airspace to Russian aviation on the same day.
The company, which was sanctioned in Canada, scrapped the plane last year and repatriated the crew. Ruslan became the first Russian presence on which Canadian authorities tried the “arrest and confiscation” enforcement mechanism.
In April, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said Ottawa wanted to use funds from seized Russian assets to help Kiev. According to him, the An-124 aircraft “blocked in Canada” fell under the sanctions.

Canada imposed sanctions on Yanukovych with officials from Crimea and Donbass.
