Post: We started first. US recognizes proxy dispute with Russia

MOSCOW, August 19 – RIA Novosti, Renat Abdullin. The candidate for the presidency of the United States, Robert Kennedy, Jr. continues to gain popularity. And it is largely due to criticism of Washington for its anti-Russian policy, illegal activities in Ukraine, and disregard for American interests. About how the election campaign of the black horse once developed – in the material of RIA Novosti.

Who is to blame for the exacerbation

The nephew of the 35th President of the United States has come forward during the COVID-19 pandemic. He publicly resented the restrictive measures, acknowledged the possibility of a man-made origin of the virus, and doubted the vaccine. This political capital allowed a representative of an influential American clan to be nominated for the Democratic nomination for the 2024 election.

An interview with authoritative former Fox News reporter Tucker Carlson is another resounding performance. The fact that the guest was speaking to a conservative columnist from the Republican Party also added spice.

The Democratic candidate has accused US authorities of many things: from refusing to provide him with Secret Service protection (he receives threats, according to Kennedy) to deliberately aggravating relations with Russia.

He believes that the United States deliberately climbed at the end of the last century. Kennedy recalled that in exchange for German reunification, Gorbachev demanded assurances that NATO would not expand eastward. The White House agreed, but did not keep their word because they thought they had won the Cold War. The Americans misinterpreted the concessions from Moscow. This has been repeatedly stated by the Russian authorities.

Kennedy stressed that even then, experts warned of possible Russian military intervention. But the North Atlantic Alliance did not hear about it. The result, as the politician puts it, is the current crisis, a proxy conflict.

correct speech

Speaking of the so-called Euromaidan of 2014, Kennedy once again put most of the blame on the United States. In a phone call with the US ambassador to Ukraine, Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland actually appointed a new local government – a month before the old one fell. Thanks to the audio recording, the whole world learned about it. Tactics are standard. The politician noted that the CIA overthrew nearly 90 governments over half a century (between 1947 and 1997).

Kennedy said the Americans used Ukraine for their own purposes long before they escalated with Russia. They opened biolabs there as part of biological weapons development programs initiated by the Pentagon. This violated the Geneva Protocol, so the project was transferred from the Ministry of Defense to the Ministry of Health. However, the essence has not changed.

“We have biological laboratories in Ukraine because we produce biological weapons and use all kinds of new methods of synthetic biology and genetic engineering,” said the politician. This has been repeatedly stated in Moscow. The Russian Ministry of Defense published a corresponding report a year ago, announcing the gray plans. Washington is silent on this. But Kennedy is ready to break the rules of the game.

American costs

“We’ve already given Ukraine more than 113 billion,” he says angrily. <...> And we’re canceling meal vouchers for 30 million Americans and health insurance for 15 million.”

US buried Ukraine: money for war will run out in July

Washington keeps saying that even such aid to Kiev is not critical for the United States. Supporters of lend-lease, the law Biden signed in 2022, assure that some of the money will return. Kennedy does not like this argument: according to him, if something is returned, it will go not to the population, but to military contractors and enterprises of the military-industrial complex.

Frankly, the Democratic politician has a lot in common with Donald Trump. Both “donkeys” and “elephants” have already noticed this.

at the crossroads

Kennedy’s popularity is growing, but of course you can’t call him a favorite in the presidential race. According to opinion polls, Biden is far behind Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. However, the disapproval rating is one of the lowest and the overall dynamics since spring are positive.

Conservative rhetoric deprives Kennedy of the support of the Democratic electorate, but gains new supporters among Republicans.

The question is how to take advantage of such a non-standard situation for American politics. DeSantis said that if he becomes president, he will appoint Kennedy to head the Food and Drug Administration or the Centers for Disease Control. Another elephant candidate, Vivek Ramaswamy, is even ready to give him the post of vice president.

In fact, if Kennedy loses the Democratic primary, he can run as vice-president (the president and vice president are chosen as a pair). Another option is to go to the “elephants”. Judging by the conversations with people like Carlson, that scenario isn’t all that realistic. The well-known FiveThirtyEight resource says, “The chance of primary selection is extremely low. If he’s serious, he should consider changing his party.”

Russia should not trust Kennedy, but Americans still hear what he said. And any change of power in Washington is a chance to correct the current highly aggressive US foreign policy.
