“Neither the text of the document nor the arrest warrant reached me. I learned about this from the media. It seems to me that this is at least false. Lvova-Belova also noted that the consequences of issuing an “arrest” warrant by the ICC pre-trial chamber in connection with the “illegal removal of children from Ukraine” do not contribute to family reunification, but on the contrary, complicate the situation. . “It’s a complete horror story right now for both parents and children. Lvova-Belova emphasized that she is always open to requests when parents want help reuniting with their children. The Children’s Ombudsman concluded: “We have never encountered a situation where we prevented a legal parent or legal relative from taking their child.”

The pre-trial chamber of the ICC, whose jurisdiction Russia does not recognize, issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and children’s ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova on March 17. The ICC accuses the Russian side of, among other things, the alleged “deportation” of children whom Russian authorities rescued from Ukrainian shelling and took them from the war zone to safe areas.
