ROSTOV-ON-DON, November 30 – RIA Novosti. The Military Court of the Southern District sentenced Ukrainian citizen Pavel Zaporozhets to 12 years in prison in a maximum security colony for the attempted terrorist attack in Kherson on May 9, 2022, RIA Novosti correspondent reported from the courtroom.

“The court decided to find Zaporozhets… guilty and impose a 12-year hard prison sentence,” the judge said. During the previous discussion between the parties, the prosecutor asked the court to find the defendant guilty and sentence him to 13 years in prison.

Zaporozhets was charged under Part 3 of Article 30, Part 1 of Article 361 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (attempted act of international terrorism). According to the investigation, Zaporozhets received advance information about the location of a cache containing ready-made explosive material and instructions for making another. On May 9 last year, he took the bombs and went to the Victory Day celebrations in Kherson, but was detained. According to the testimony of a witness in court, Zaporozhets was recruited by the main intelligence department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

The article indicting him concerned an act of international terrorism committed outside the Russian Federation, since at that time the referendum on accession to the Russian Federation had not yet been held in the Kherson region.
