The Kiev prosecutor’s office is investigating the subway crash for official negligence.

MOSCOW, December 9 – RIA Novosti. The Kiev city prosecutor’s office said it has opened a pre-trial investigation into the fact of official negligence in connection with the flooding of tunnels and the halt of train traffic at six stations of the Ukrainian capital’s blue metro line.

According to the prosecutor’s office, on Friday city authorities announced that train traffic was stopped on the section of the blue metro line between Lybidskaya and Demievskaya stations. According to preliminary data, these conditions arose due to a decrease in the pressure of the tunnel and the appearance of cracks in its walls, which led to flooding of the tunnel in the specified section of the metro.

“Under the procedural leadership of the Podolsk District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Kiev, a preliminary investigation has been launched into the incident in connection with the flooding of tunnels in the section of the Kiev metro on the Obolonsko-Teremkovskaya metro line. “Official negligence leading to serious consequences,” reads a message published on the prosecutor’s office’s page on the social network Facebook*.

It was noted that within the scope of the investigation, a legal evaluation will be made on the actions of Kiev Metro public service officials and contractors who built transportation tunnels between the metro stations in question located in the floodplain of the Lybid River.

As the head of the Kiev metro, Viktor Braginsky, previously noted, the metro could have been flooded for various reasons. According to him, this may have arisen due to poor quality work done by the general contractor, who specifically completed the project without waterproofing and chemically securing the tunnel. The second reason is probably due to the inflow of the Lybid River; There is water behind the edge of the tunnel. Difficult geological conditions in the form of floating bodies also cannot be ignored.
