Deputy Foreign Minister Przydacz: Poland opposes protection of tourists from Israel at Auschwitz Museum

WARSAW, June 20 – RIA Novosti. Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Przydacz said on the broadcast of the radio station that Poland is against the armed guards accompanying Israeli youth to visit the Auschwitz Museum. RMF FM.

Previously, the museum on the territory of the former Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, located on the outskirts of Auschwitz, Poland, often organized excursions for Israeli youth. Each group was accompanied by armed guards from Israel.

“These expeditions were interrupted during the pandemic. They were not restarted at this stage. We believe this should be regulated in the agreement between Poland and Israel. The first element is that each time there is an officer with a firearm, Przydach with real ammunition that is supposed to protect the group from the dangers that threaten them in Poland. ” said.

He believes that Poland is a safe enough country and that there is no need to protect every trip Israel makes to Auschwitz. “This can of course be explained in some special cases, but Poland is not a dangerous country where every group must be protected by an armed officer. We believe that this should be resolved in a civilized manner. such consent will be given “, – said the deputy minister.

“On the other hand, we believe that there is an opinion among Israeli youth that Poland is an unsafe country, and even voices are raised that it is an antisemitic country. We also want Israeli youth to have the opportunity to contact Polish youth. They saw what kind of relationship they had,” he added.

Auschwitz-Birkenau (in Oswiecim, Poland) was the largest and longest-running Nazi concentration camp, so it has become one of the main symbols of the Holocaust. About 1.4 million people died in Auschwitz between 1941 and 1945, including about 1.1 million Jews. The camp was liberated by Red Army units on January 27, 1945. In 1947, a museum was established on the site of the former Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. It was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979.
