US Secretary of State Blinken Urges Global Community to Increase Support for Refugees
WASHINGTON, June 20 – RIA Novosti. On the occasion of World Refugee Day, 20 June, the United States is calling on the world community to increase its support for refugees and other vulnerable populations, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on Monday.
“The United States is taking the lead in helping the brave and resilient people who have had to move to find shelter and rebuild their lives through humanitarian aid, diplomacy and refugee resettlement.”
According to the head of the State Department, the United States is the world leader in the amount of humanitarian aid provided, with the amount of funding allocated for humanitarian aid in fiscal 2021 exceeding $13 billion.
World Refugee Day was established by the UN to draw attention to the problems of IDPs and is celebrated on 20 June every year.
