Hundreds protest the US Supreme Court’s annulment of abortion rights
WASHINGTON, June 25 – RIA Novosti. Several hundred people are protesting in front of the US Supreme Court on Friday overturning constitutional guarantees for the right to abortion.
On the street that separates the Supreme Court and Capitol buildings in the center of the American capital, both proponents of reproductive freedoms and their dissidents, a clear minority, gathered.
Conflicts do not go beyond verbal confrontations and are separated by the police when there is a threat of physical violence.
Protesters came up with slogans such as “My body is my choice”, “Down with the Supreme Court”, “I am a woman and have no less than a gun” and even “I love abortion”.
The Conservative-controlled Supreme Court, in its 1973 Roe v. Through his scrutiny, Wade overturned constitutional guarantees for the right to terminate a pregnancy and allowed US states to regulate the practice themselves. About half of the 50 states plan to ban or significantly restrict abortion in their territories. So far, US authorities have not been allowed to arrange abortions in the first trimester, and administrative intervention has been allowed in the second trimester solely for the purpose of protecting the mother’s health.
