Former Pentagon analyst Kwiatkowski: Kyiv failed to use Western weapons

WASHINGTON, July 7 – RIA Novosti. Karen Kwiatkowski, a former Pentagon analyst, told RIA Novosti that Kiev’s resale of Western-supplied weapons on the black market is predictable, as Ukrainian security forces are largely unprepared for the use of these weapons and are unable to integrate them into its war strategy.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said earlier that some foreign weapons supplied by Western countries to Ukraine are in the Middle East and on the black market. In this regard, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a warning that the new supply of weapons to Kiev poses security threats not only in Ukraine, but also beyond its borders.

Meanwhile, the director of Ukraine’s Bureau of Economic Security, Vadim Melnyk, admitted in early July that his office had identified repeated cases of sales of humanitarian aid and military products from Western countries.

As Kwiatkowski pointed out, such a development of events in Ukraine can be predicted in the event of any armed conflict. Moreover, according to him, cases of Ukraine re-exporting Western weapons are well documented in 2015 and 2016, as well as in other stages of hostilities in the Donbass.

“Many of the weapons and equipment supplied to Ukraine by the United States and its allies have not been effectively used by the Ukrainian armed forces in terms of logistics and the ever-shrinking size of the Ukrainian army,” he noted.

A former Pentagon analyst expressed the opinion that a large number of weapons and military equipment was sent to Kiev, and it was impossible to integrate them into the tactics and strategy of combat operations of the Ukrainian army in a short time. Now, given the availability of these weapons, individuals or criminal groups interested in selling them can easily take advantage of the situation and profit for themselves.

“The countries that supply these weapons are meeting two urgent needs of developed nations: replenishment of stockpiles (and justification for increased funding) and a demonstration of intent to maintain a supposedly peaceful, democratic and completely innocent Ukraine. Some types of these weapons may prolong the war, none of these in the long run. It will not help retake or recapture territory that currently belongs to Russia, or regain the independent republics (DNR and LNR),” stressed Kwiatkowski.

The White House has repeatedly stressed that while it sees a diplomatic solution as the only possible way to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, it is also allocating new military aid to Ukraine. This week, US President Joe Biden specifically stressed that his country would provide such support to Ukraine “as long as it gets”, even though the volume of aid allocated from Washington has exceeded $7 billion.

Earlier, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the West is betting on the continuation of hostilities in Ukraine, that under the leadership of the USA, Ukrainians are not allowed to think and talk about peace. He noted that the pumping of weapons into Ukraine from the West did not contribute to the success of the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and would have a negative impact.

Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, stated that in response to Russia’s special operation, the United States declared a “war by proxy”, supplying Ukraine with weapons and waging a militaristic frenzy there to fight to the end of Kiev. Ukraine. According to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov, the entire responsibility for the interruption of the peace talks lies with Kiev and its “Western curators”.
