Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe (centre) was transported to an ambulance near Yamato Saidaiji Station after being injured in Nara city.

Abe’s brother, who was injured during the assassination attempt, told the politician that he had received a blood transfusion.

TOKYO, July 8 – RIA Novosti. His younger brother and Minister of Defense, Nobuo Kishi, said that former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe received a blood transfusion after the assassination attempt.

“I pray for a speedy recovery. At the moment in the hospital in Nara everything possible is being done to save his life, including a blood transfusion,” he said.

However, he declined to comment on media reports that Abe was attacked by a former member of the Maritime Self-Defense Forces.

Earlier, the Kyodo agency reported that former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe showed no signs of life, citing representatives of the Nara fire department in charge of the ambulance service.

He was attacked by an attacker during a politician’s speech at around 11:30 am (5:30 am Moscow time) in Nara, Japan. According to Japanese media, Abe was shot in the back twice from a distance of about ten meters. Police said he was conscious immediately after being shot, but during transport his condition became critical with “heart and lung arrest”.

Abe was wounded in the neck on the right, then bleeding was seen there. In addition, bleeding in the left chest region was noted. As current Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said at a press conference, Abe’s post-attack situation is extremely difficult. It is located in Nara Governorate University Hospital.

The attacker, 41-year-old Tetsuyu Yamagami, was detained at the scene. He served in the country’s naval self-defense forces for three years, until 2005, according to local media reports. Yamagami gave his first statement and said that he was dissatisfied with the former prime minister and wanted to kill him.
