German tabloid Bild later reported that the diplomat could continue as deputy foreign minister in the Ukrainian capital, citing sources in Kiev. Melnyk “is highly appreciated in Kiev for his work,” an anonymous representative of the Ukrainian government told the newspaper.

The publication of Gazeta.pl about Melnyk’s dismissal and possible promotion caused an active reaction of readers in the comments.
