BRICS forum chairman Anand: Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Turkey want to join the organization
MOSCOW, July 14 – RIA Novosti. Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia could join BRICS “very soon”, stated Purnima Anand, President of the BRICS Forum, in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper.
Earlier, Li Kexin, head of the Department of International Economic Affairs of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported that several countries “knocked on the doors” of the organization: Indonesia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Argentina.
Anand said that China, Russia and India discussed this issue at the 14th BRICS Leaders Summit, which took place online between 23-24 June.
“All these countries have shown an interest in joining and are preparing to apply for membership. I think this is a good step, because as enlargement is always perceived positively, this will clearly increase the influence of BRICS in the world… the participation of countries in BRICS will happen very quickly, because now all representatives of the core of the association are interested in expanding. So it will be very soon, “explained the forum chairman.
In addition, Anand expressed his confidence that the participation of Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia should take place quickly as the process has already been initiated. However, the minister also announced that membership would not happen all of a sudden.
