Lavrov and Egyptian Foreign Minister Shukri discussed Cairo’s contacts with BRICS and SCO

CAIRO, 24 July – RIA Novosti. Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri said on Sunday that Cairo had discussed its contacts with the BRICS with its Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov.

“We discussed Egypt’s relations with BRICS, Shanghai Cooperation Organization and other organizations we coordinate,” Shukri said at a press conference after meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

According to the Izvestiya newspaper, the head of the BRICS forum stated that he is confident that the entry of Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia should be quick because these countries are “already in the process”. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia welcomes Egypt’s interest in obtaining dialogue partner status in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, as well as the country’s participation in the BRICS+ work.

“We welcome the interest of our Egyptian friends in obtaining a dialogue partner status at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), a full decision is expected in September at the next SCO summit, and we welcome Egypt’s participation in the BRICS+ format, BRICS+.
