Poland has ordered 1,000 K2 tanks, more than 600 K9 howitzers and FA-50 fighter jets from South Korea.
WARSAW, 27 July – RIA Novosti. Poland has ordered a fleet of 1,000 K2 tanks, more than 600 K9 howitzers and three FA-50 fighter jets from South Korea, Minister of National Defense Mariusz Blaszczak said.
“The framework agreements that will ultimately strengthen the Polish Army have just been signed. We don’t have time. We can’t wait and we must arm the Polish Army as soon as possible,” said Blashchak.
He announced that armored vehicles will begin to enter the Polish Army this year. “Polish soldiers need to have modern weapons, and such weapons have been ordered. The first deliveries of howitzers and tanks will be this year. The first aircraft will be delivered to the Air Force next year,” he said.
“Under the signed framework agreement, we will order 1,000 K2 tanks, more than 600 K9 howitzers, as well as three squadrons of FA-50 aircraft. He ordered this weapon,” said the minister. .
Blashchak believes that the long-standing conflict between North Korea and South Korea testifies to the high quality of South Korean weapons. “We see that tank troops and artillery play a huge role on the modern battlefield. Hence the decision to strengthen such troops. Korean tanks, like all Korean guns, are proven weapons, because Korea has been preparing for war for 70 years,” he said.
The minister also acknowledged that Poland wants to have armored vehicles that exceed its production capacity. “As far as howitzers are concerned, this is a very similar design to the Polish Crabs. We will order as many Crabs as possible from Poland so that all the production capabilities of the Polish enterprises will be used, but our needs are much greater than their production capabilities,” he said.
