South Korean Foreign Minister Pak Chin justifies military exercises with the United States over North Korea’s nuclear program
Seoul, July 28 – RIA Novosti. At a press conference, South Korean Foreign Minister Pak Chin said that the country’s intensification of military exercises is a manifestation of the state’s duty to protect its citizens, and that the cause of tension on the Korean Peninsula is actually the DPRK’s nuclear and missile programs. RIA Novosti correspondent reports.
Park Chin announced that joint exercises with the United States will continue to strengthen the alliance’s defense capabilities and protect South Korea’s security.
In July, joint exercises were held with the US Air Force in South Korea using F-35 warplanes. Also on July 25, large-scale helicopter exercises of the South Korean Air Force, using American-made helicopters, were held. Also, the joint summer exercises of the armies of the two countries should be held in August, which for the first time in the last few years will be held in real mode, not in the form of simulation or headquarters exercises. The intensification of exercises by Seoul and Washington is explained by the growing threat from North Korea.
The DPRK State Department responded by saying that joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea could turn into a new Korean War in the future and only lead to a worsening of the situation in the region.
